"Monwana Game Lodge - The Big 5 Playground"

Monwana Game Lodge is Set within the Thornybush Game Reserve. It sits on the banks of the Monwana River. The reserve spans across an impressive 11 500 hectares of savannah bordering the Kruger National Park.

The lodge is the ideal getaway for couples, families, small groups. Personalised service is guaranteed to make a memorable stay. Elegantly furnished imbued in a unique African charm, Monwana Lodge offers gourmet meals and once in a lifetime safari experience.


Monwana Lodge can accommodate a maximum of twelve guests, in four spacious, luxurious suites, named after South African tribes. The African-inspired décor creates a true safari atmosphere.

The Bushman and Zulu are family suites, both en-suite bedrooms.

The Ndebele suite sleeps two people in a double bed and is en-suite.

The Shangaan suite is a romantic honeymoon suite.

All suites have expansive private wooden decks; which offers a glorious view over the waterhole or river.

Children's Programme:

  • Monwana Game Lodge offers a children’s program allowing parents some free time to enjoy the African bush
  • Children receive a complimentary activity backpack; they also get assigned a ranger upon arrival.
  • Outdoor activities include game walks and drives. At the end of their visit children will receive ‘Ranger in Training’ certificates.
  • All of the Thornybush Kids programs can include specific meal plans, activities, and after-hours childminders if pre-requested by the parents.

Thornybush is a fenced private game reserve. The Big Five live here as do a multitude of mammals including; spotted hyena, cheetah, and hippo. Thornybush guests night drives often reveal the elusive civet, genet,porcupine, caracal, and bushbaby, and the chance of witnessing predators hunting or stalking their prey.

Monwana is a "Birder Friendly" Lodge and boasts a variety of around 300 bird species. These include the 'Big Six'; Martial Eagle, Ground hornbill, Saddle-billed Stork and Pel's fishing owl.

Migratory birds are prevalent from November to April.

Due to the frequency of rates changing, we do not publish official rates on this website. Luxury Safaris range in a variety of prices and, as an indication of what to expect, one can pay anywhere from R2 000 to R20 000 per person per night sharing and more, depending on the choice of accommodation, season, specials and other determining factors. For the most up to date rates, please contact us.
